Rent Says Goodbye to Tony

Anyone who knows me knows that I am an absolute Renthead. They would also know that I am desperately hoping that someone gives me a plane ticket and a show ticket to see the final performance of the play September 7, 2008. (not seeing that happen however)

This past weekend at the Tony Awards, there was a tribute to Rent where the current cast, including American Idol alum Tamyra Gray, as well as the original cast, performed two numbers from the show.

Rent has previously won the following:

• Tony Award for Best Musical
• Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical: Jonathan Larson
• Tony Award for Best Original Score: Jonathan Larson
• Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical: Wilson Jermaine Heredia

It brought tears to my eyes so I wanted to share.

Taylor Hicks takes on Broadway

In a move that seems to be the trend now with American Idol Alums, Taylor Hicks will be making the move to the Great White Way to play Teen Angel in Grease beginning June 6th.

Taylor will follow fellow idol alumni Fantasia (Colour Purple), Diana Degarmo (Hairspray) Frenchie (Rent), Constantine Maroulis (The Wedding Singer) and Tamyra Gray (Rent).

I saw Tamyra in Rent last Thanksgiving and she was absolutely stunning. Her portrayal of Mimi brought tears to my eyes....
